      I thought mine was Piriformis at first but it lacked what I believe is supposed to be a burning sensation up the back. I'd propose possible scar tissue build-up, which the strengthening exercises can "point out" (and maybe aggravate). My hammies are more sore with all the strength work I'm doing, but I get more concerned about how the tightness "transmits" (for lack of a better word) down to my calves. Are you rolling, maybe try massage/ART?

      Get a massage, everytime I get real tight and sore, I get a Sports Massage, not fun, but feel like a million bucks a day or so after.

      Good plan. I'm struggling as to whether it makes sense to maintain a 60 mile per week base when I'm not training for a specific race. I'm considering dropping back down to the 40-50 mile per week range as I think that's perfect as a base until it's time to ramp up for a specific purpose. Otherwise, 60 miles bases for 40-somethings is pretty heavy.

      Fantastic run Fred! Sounds like a good plan. I'll be revisiting my "plan" too, after next weekend's marathon. Hopefully it will include a trip to Boston! :)

      I agree you deserve to shut down to 30-40 miles. But I am more apt to put in closer to a 20 week training program...slow start but gradual amping up of the training from week to week. Speed definitely. Base goes without saying--yes! I have more thoughts on it but wanted to at least give you an initial shout!

      Thanks for all the replies and appreciate the input. I think for the rest of December I will try and get in 30-40 per week. Give myself some time to see how I want to approach early 2013. If you look at my training 95% is base/easy running. I will only do one speed workout per week and sometimes a long run but most of my training is easy pace. This seems to work well for me. I will run easy in December.

    Really foggy and warm run this morning. Out at an easy pace (7:30's) then back at a moderate pace (6:50's). Legs wanted to go this morning.

    Temp was 53 and wind was SE at 5 mph.

      Thanks Fred. Reminds me of an observation I had when I joined DM. I thought a leaderboard looked out of place on this site. There are people working way harder than me for example who are doing activities that don't involve logging miles. So I think the leaderboards are pointless on this site and at the very least, a bit deceiving. As long as there is a leaderboard and people exercising, some people are going to end up at the top and some will be at the bottom. There’s no way around that.
