good zoning out in 2 3.1 mi 00:37 11:55 pace

So today was a 5k with the goal to keep our heart rate in high zone 2. I did great going out the first 2 miles, averaged right at the top of zone 2, dotting up into zone 3 a few times but managed to get it back in check. I am at a complete loss as to what happened coming back the last mile, I was smack dab in zone 3 and almost 2 minutes per mile slower. How can I have a lower heart rate at a much faster speed going out than coming back at a way slow speed???? The only thing I can figure is it heated up quite a bit from when we went out and that it was the change in temp that got to me, I am really not certain and sort of confused. My overall pace sucked but that was not the goal for this run, my first mile was fantastic and even to the turn around wasn't bad, and really hoped to keep that pace the whole way. I feel like I have been fighting this for years and not improving.
