I am truly thankful & blessed with a life that has allowed me to run. This is my first home city Marathon:) One I will never forget. It was warm at 9:20am when the gun went off started off well .But 2 miles in my pack strap broke and had to be pinned. Fixed and got back on pace ran so strong & fresh and all the water stations were commenting me on how fresh I looked. I felt great well hydrated, took a gel at mile 6 was taking electrolyte tablets as well as sodium when I just felt the time was right. Stopped at every water station whether to drink it or drown myself in it. Tons & tons of hills in this Marathon as my city is basically all hills and of course we crossed the bridge into the next city Dartmouth which is all hills also. At 9 am it was starting to get hot. I was strong till 18.64 miles when the stiff hit about 90 but it's a humid heat here in Nova Scotia. Then by mile 20 Lactic acid build up was starting to set in my hammies & calves. I had great energy but the legs didn't want to go and at this point ,many runners were walking or being taken away on stretchers from heat exhaustion, dehydration and other aliments. All I can say is it was all about staying a float and finishing this race as it was brutal still several hills to go for the next 6 miles. Stopped often stretching rubbing,pouring cold water on my legs. Then run some more then mile 21 was a steep hill but ran it at a nice pace. Then it was into the park for some trails as this was the second set of trails ( the 1st set were back at miles 7, 8,9 where I was fresh & speedy) that involved several big also steep hills).Come out of the park involved a detour to more hills the purpose was to stay focused and just push through this to the finish line which was still 5 miles away. Come into the home stretch as I call the last 4 where to just keep moving running ,stopping to stretch as the legs were completely tightening to the point it was at times unbearable to lift them mile 23 was yet more hills staying on top and getting to the top. Mile 24 was down hill ,but when the legs aren't cooperating even down hill is painful then mile 25 was flat and I just gave it to her the way to the finish line which was very emotional as I have realized last weeks trail race and today's Marathon I am definitely not 100% from my bike accident but I'm in awww and proud of myself what I have accomplished in 8 days.The day ended with an hour of the best massage & chicken salad sandwich as it was gone before I even got to taste it. I hope you all had fantastic days.Those who raced be proud as it is an accomplishment within.
