  1. RUN
good Elwha River Trail 5.88 mi 01:12 12:13 pace

Bruised foot from kicking a root, a gajillion paper cuts from ferns on my shins, ankles sore from twisting, quads trashed from absurd hills. You know, a recovery run.

  2. RUN
good Run home 5.18 mi 00:39 07:33 pace

Down heart-o-hills road back home. Legs didn't fall apart. Mostly.

    • Masayo

Glad your legs didn't fall apart! Nice pace!

Go "Willy Nilly Training Plan!" Given your minimalist style, I think "no watch" may be just your style - enjoy and great to see you back in the groove!

I do plan on wearing my watch in the future, but mostly for the purpose of mapping out all the trails. I might turn off the pace window though.

I figured as much based on your entry, and that's the spirit of what I was getting at - the "freedom" of running without a pace, the pressure of a time goal, and the Garmin-induced "slavery" to our own training expectations is a wonderful thing (of which I, of course, enjoy far too INfrequently!!!)

  7. Annoyance Of De Feet: Victoria Marathon Report:

    • Masayo

I understand the concept of being barefeet. But doesn't it hurt???? I am sure your skin gets tougher and learns to take beating by training, but there are a lot of small objects on the roads...... I play outdoor grass volleyball barefeet but can't imagine running on asphalt barefeet.... By the way, VERY NICE Marathon time, Josh!

It does take a while for the entire body to make the adjustment, though. It's like shifting the foundation of a building.

Yea I can see that. Running in shoes and just barefeet.... those are totally different. My work partner saw a man running the downtown Winston-Salem, NC in barefeet last week. I haven't seen him yet but if I see him myself, I am gonna ask what made him decide to run barefeet! Very interesting topic, Josh! Keep us posted and informed!

  8. RUN
tired Victoria Marathon 26.5 mi 03:20 07:32 pace

Another marathon with a twenty-minute positive split. I'm really really good at marathon training, just not the racing. Maybe I should stick to the training. Much cheaper that way, too.

  9. RUN
    0.68 mi 00:07:56 11:38 pace

  10. What should I wear for the Victoria Marathon?

  11. RUN
    1.49 mi 00:13:41 09:09 pace

    easy with the Sun Beast

  12. RUN
good odt west 1 mi 00:06:04 06:02 pace

That's the tip of the pencil, edge of the knife, star on the Christmas tree, cherry on the sundae, "two bits" of the "shave and a haircut."

  13. RUN
    1.16 mi 00:10:45 09:14 pace

  14. RUN
    2.04 mi 00:19 09:25 pace

  15. RUN
good nabe, odt east 6.37 mi 00:58 09:06 pace

Took the Sun Beast downtown today to see the sun rise over the water up close. Close to the water, that is, not the sun. Neither one of us have that kind of traveling capabilities, especially befor... read more

  16. As of yesterday, I ran 1003 miles since moving to Port Angeles and starting my training for the shin-dig this Sunday. Today I'm resting the pins.

  17. There's nothing here you don't already know.

  18. RUN
    good nabe 4.36 mi 00:37 08:25 pace

Nice run in the rain with the Sun Beast. She's very comfortable so long as we don't stray from the usual stomping grounds.

  19. RUN
good odt east 10.01 mi 01:31 09:02 pace

Not all gravel is created equal.

  20. RUN
alright odt west 3.67 mi 00:22 06:06 pace

I think that went well; not really sure. The plan called for a time trial with a faster target pace, but I figured a race last weekend fit that bill. So instead I just went for a fast pace, whateve... read more

Good splits, Josh. I hate time trials. I'd rather pay $$ to race than to hurt for free.

Ignore that elevation - the garmin was a little psycho in that respect. The actual elevation gain was 87ft, a 1% grade up on the way out, then down on the way back.

      Nice Job:

Perhaps the elevation gain contributed to the increased effort. Damn impressive, man.
