  2. RUN
great Road run 5.41 mi 00:49 09:04 pace

Trails were going to be muddy after last night's rain, so I opted for a short road run after walking the dogs.

  3. RUN
great Blackmere Dr. 1.82 mi 00:21 11:16 pace

Run down Emerald Mtn. with Jude on Blackmere Dr. (dirt road). Cut over on the single track nearthe top of the Howelsen ski lift.

  4. RUN
great Emerald Mtn. 4.61 mi 01:05 14:12 pace

Ran up the front side of Emerald on single track with Jude. Slow but steady, with a few water stops for Jude. About 1,000 ft of mostly gradual climbing. Truly a nice trail run for us.

I think we could have easily gone further, but we're going to work up to longer runs together slowly.

Hi Ron. Look at my post from yesterday regarding my future plans. I'm actually dropping plans for my summer races, including the NYC Marathon and that 50K trail ultra that I ran last year. I think my focus is shifting to running with my dog. We've had lots of dogs (including another one now), but this is the first one I've felt could be a running partner. So, that means exclusively trail runs and slowly working up to longer distances for the foreseeable future.

Irv, I guess as long as you enjoy what you are doing it's great. Don't know that my dog would go much further than a mile or so, but lots of roads and few trails. Plus, I don't have the patience to wait for her to get up to "speed."

Ron, if I was anywhere near as strong a runner as you, I wouldn't be so willing to dramatically readjust my goals in running. For me, trading solitary long training runs for trails runs in the mountains with Jude is an easy choice. I haven't enjoyed running this much in a while. I plan to work us up to much longer runs, but there's no rigid timetable for that.

First double-digit mileage run in quite a while. Relaxed (meaning slow) pace, and I felt fine throughout the run.

Hiked with the dogs on Emerald Mtn. and then ran 3 miles home on the core trial by the Yampa River. Short, but good since my legs were pretty tired from yesterday's run and hike.

Thanks, Carla. That's our new dog (from a wonderful rescue organization) in my profile pic. And he's the reason I was a bit too preoccupied to run last week. We're dog people (my wife has been the president of our local humane society for years), and we've "only" had 1 dog since our last German Shepherd Dog passed away in December. Now, we're back up to 2 dogs (and 2 cats). Also, I've got a ways to go before a 1000 ft. climb in 3 miles seems relaxing

My family are dog people as well! We have one pound puppy named Lilly(She's on my profile pic) and Rusty. He is our rescue buddy! We think they are pretty special! I am in the process of starting my own pet service business. I can't wait to launch it! You have a beautiful new friend BTW! Maybe he can accompany you on some of your runs!
