Gotta watch those snakes! I talked to a teenage girl at the barber shop (she was waiting for her father) who had a horribly swollen ankle. Turned out she had been hiking on a trail at dusk in flip flops and stepped on a copperhead. The snake did not appreciate it and it bit her. Fortunately the cell worked and she was in the hospital in a very short time, but she's had a rough month now!

@ Mari, yes I did hear those words mentioned. @ Lowell, I know! I realize that the stress fracture would have to heal on its own no matter what but all the other problems could have been helped a long time ago if I would have had a physiotherapist who was 'brave' enough to tread a female mid section. :-) I cannot wait to get back to running and start the longggg road of getting back into shape again.

It will take time but I know you from this DailyMile world and you will do it. FWIW I took several years off (like, 10!) while getting through law school (3.5 years) and then caring for son and starting my law practice (6.5) and when I started back I couldn't even run a mile! I took it really slow and soon enough, I was back in shape. Lotta work, but well worth it, as you already know!

Some people just cannot relax enough for chiro, the more you tense up, the more it will hurt. Mine actually recommends if you are really nervous, go for a nice relaxing massage before your appointment.

IMO you made a wise decision. The violent manipulations done by chiropracters can be dangerous, ESPECIALLY when applied to the neck. Of course we'd all like an instant fix, especially when we've been suffering for a long time, as you have. But in my experience seeing a physio for a good diagnosis and then remedial exercises is the most effective strategy long term. Looking back, the treatment I had from chiropracters and osteopaths was a waste of time and money,

but the advice all the chiros gave me was brilliant - to go to a gym and strengthen the muscles in my bad back. It worked for me. Good luck on the next lap of your journey.
