Alena, one thing that worked for me was swimming slower. I tried hard to relax and just focus on my stroke and my form and I didn't run out of breath so quickly. I was able to build up my distance much more quickly. Once I could swim the distance slowly, I began to work on speed.

For breathing I taught my son with a kickboard. Put his face in the water while kicking and then turn to the side to breath. There may be some added comfort in having something to hold. We also sometimes practice against the wall. Maybe something like that would help.

Thank you both! Nick- I did start with the kickboard and holding onto the side, which did help immensely! Kelowna- I think that is right on, I think that I am trying to just get done instead of relaxing and going slower.
