good National Mall 2.44 mi 00:19 07:48 pace

Another run around the mall and then a quick shower before hitting the town with a bunch of new German friends. Splits: 7:58, 7:45, 7:30. Crowded, hot, and humid as only DC can be.

    good 6.7 mi 00:57 08:32 pace

Happy with the pace - right around my marathon goal with consistent splits and didn't feel too bad.

Lot's of peeps on the walkways and trails today. I try not to get too frustrated, but... read more

Nice job Brian! The dog leash thing bothers me too, especially since it's usually due to the owner being on the phone or too busy chatting with others. It's great that you're out getting your dog some exercise but please stop him from causing danger to others! Thankfully running is good for stress relief :)

What Marathon time are you aiming at? I've made the experience that strictly sticking to the respective target pace of each session of the training plan helped a lot to increase my performance. Excellent run! :)

Daniela, I'd really like to get a 3:45, but I'll be happy with anything under 4. I've been doing a lot of shorter runs and am around 7:20 ish for up to 5 miles. I figure to plan on at least 1 min / mile slower for the longer distance.

  6. Stupid question - tomorrow the plan is calling for half my mileage to be at marathon goal pace. Would that be speeding up to marathon goal pace or slowing down to it because I could certainly comp... read more

Thanks Melissa!! I got kind of intimidated looking at the course route; it goes from downtown to my neighborhood, around the lakes, back to the U, and then to St. Paul. I think this is the case where being familiar with the course might be bad, I've run or biked almost all of the sections, but stringing them all together seems nuts!!
