my weekly marathon pace run. i ran this route for the first time last week and found it quite hilly and challenging, so i've decided to do the rest of my friday runs on it. no cheating myself in these last weeks of training by doing my race pace runs on flat routes.

my training plan had me scheduled to do 10 miles (the first 2 being warm-up miles). it said that if i could sustain my goal pace for 8 miles, i was right on target. i mentioned previously that i don't really have a set goal pace in mind for big sur, but that i'd like to average around 9:35 or 9:45. so for this run, i decided i'd be happy just to keep my splits under 9:45.

mission accomplished, except for the second-to-last mile! that one happened to include an insane hill that i gave myself permission to break pace on. i was just aiming to make it up without sucking wind by the time i reached the top, which i accomplished. man, a few months ago that hill would have devastated me and now i'm all "BRING IT!".

i ran somewhat hard on this one- the effort was palpable- but something about climbing that hill just re-energized me. i hit my machine stride shortly thereafter, and decided to just keep going. tacked on an extra 1.5mi at pace that i'm seriously surprised i was about to hit after a somewhat long, hard run!

    Awesome run Kyndra. Really smart training to start hitting the hills more. Hit machine stride again? Very cool :)

    yeah, i've made sure to get at least a couple hills in on pretty much every run, but this route is basically non-stop up and down. i looked at the elevation profile for the first time last night and it's giving me some confidence that the hills at big sur won't kill me!
