Another 20! Impressive!!! Take it easy for a few days... especially if you're getting sick.

    recovery run.

    9:51
    9:26
    9:35

i felt like i was moving super slow, but upon looking at my splits afterwards, i realized my pace was a little faster than it should have been for a recovery run. weird. just felt kind of blah, like i was slogging throug... read more

your slow is many people's fast :) way to improve on those splits! I'm going on a hike tomorrow with a friend and his wife that are doing Big Sur - I'm way jealous of you guys!

i still kind of can't believe that this is a normal pace for me! all the hard work i've done is definitely paying off. so psyched for big sur. it's like a month away now, ahhhhh!! have a good time on the hike.

  3. goodhastings hills 11.5 mi / 01:47 09:17 pace

my weekly marathon pace run. i ran this route for the first time last week and found it quite hilly and challenging, so i've decided to do the rest of my friday runs on it. no cheating myself in these last weeks of training by doing my race pace runs o... read more

Awesome run Kyndra. Really smart training to start hitting the hills more. Hit machine stride again? Very cool :)

yeah, i've made sure to get at least a couple hills in on pretty much every run, but this route is basically non-stop up and down. i looked at the elevation profile for the first time last night and it's giving me some confidence that the hills at big sur won't kill me!

  4. goodweight training 01:00

traps, shoulders, pecs, rhomboids, lats, spinal erectors, and ab work. nothing too heavy or strenuous- trying to stay fresh for this weekend's massive mileage.

  5. i'm having a lot of race dreams lately. last night i dreamed i was running a half here in vancouver. i hopped on the bus to get down to the starting area, and suddenly i realized i was victoria. i was all "oh shit! now i have to take a ferry back!... read more

Amazing the things you don't even question in a dream. Can you imagine if that happened in real life? You go all the way to Victoria but don't realize it until you get off the bus. Thanks for sharing. :)

greg- yeah, it's so bizarre how outrageous stuff like that seems completely plausible in dreams. alex- ha! that gave me a good laugh. one of those dreams that makes you think "how the heck did my brain come up with that?", i'm sure. marvin- yep, i think it's just my mind processing my race day anxiety. when i have bad dreams about races, it's always either rushing late to the start under crazy circumstances or getting lost on the course and adding like 3 hours to my time, ha.

  6. goodeasy run - burnaby lake 8.04 mi / 01:18 09:42 pace

lordy, i needed this run. i came home after work and found my front door wide open, my landlords inside, most of the kitchen ceiling missing and water everywhere. a pipe had burst. they were taking care of it and had a plumber on the way, so i decided ... read more

Crap, that sucks! Glad your landlord was on it at least. That happened to me once right after college and I had to pretty much bitch the landlord out to get it fixed. Sweet run (aside from the cramps). Wait till you get that machine stride feeling during a long tempo run! My god that's a great feeling. Only happened a handful of times but crap it was glorious.

what a bummer...but so great that running mellowed you out so that you could deal calmly with the situation..I would have done the same.

I am impressed, seriously that's awesome! Also - seeing awesome things on your run, I think that being 'high' while running helps make small things that much more awesome, and it's also you being out 'there' - you see things that ordinarily might miss.
      Love your updates :)

so true that being in the middle of a run when you see something cool elevates that thing to "awesome" status.

  8. greatweight training 01:00

first workout of the day. lats, delts, tris, rhomboids, spinal erectors, pecs, abs.

    also threw in some plyo:

    - 4 sets x 20 bench hops (really focusing on minimizing the amount of time my feet touch the ground when i land)
    - 16 ball kicks-ups

  9. goodlong run - burnaby lake 20.02 mi / 03:16 09:47 pace

you know how some runs aren't great in and of themselves, but the fact that you manage to tough it out and finish makes you feel amazing? yeah, it was one of those runs today.

sounds like you just went through a fundamental gestalt switch in dealing with the pain/fatigue that a run can bring sometimes. i'm going to have to try that next sunday. exceptional run kyndra!

Awesome post! I know exactly what you mean about that second wind, I didn't have one of those at my race this weekend but I have had them on training/solo runs. This is a weird thought but I'll throw it out there, do you think that sometimes running alone gives you an opportunity to communicate with yourself and your body better? I think that sometimes at races I'm too distracted because it's a mindfu** - I've got a million people around me, tons of noise etc.

    • Kyndra M. Kyndra M.

yeah, i agree with you on running alone vs running with other people! i've had a lot of runners tell me that marathon training- specifically the long runs- will be a better experience if i train with a group, but i don't think that's for me. when i hit the trails and it's just me and my music, i feel like i can tune into myself and focus in a way that's not possible when i'm running with other people.

i love my backyard pond! it has goldfish. i didn't know just how quickly this shirt dries until today . . . i got completely soaked in the rain and stopped at the mall on the way home to get a coffee. by the time i headed back out, it was already starting to dry.
