just shook my legs out after the entire week of rest leading up to my race the next day.
last long run before my 50k. dusted off the chest strap for my HRM and made a point of running this one by zone instead of pace. i was really surprised at just how slow i need to run in order to st... read more
as much as i hate tapering itself, i love how ebullient and energetic i feel on taper runs. i really had to work at reigning myself in tonight, but i think i did a fairly good job at clamping down ... read more

i spontaneously ran a half marathon race today. i got to my usual long run spot and realized that the rubber ducky race was being held. i jumped in at the start, and then ducked out at the finish c... read more
10k of hills. it's been awhile since i did a dedicated hill run and i was actually surprised to find that i was maintaining a pretty good pace without sucking wind.
lunch time swim. really, it was just an excuse to go to the pool to use the hot tub.
so, this was supposed to be a recovery run after the victoria marathon. the pace was a little fast for recovery! oops. i felt great though, so i went with it.
so, i had an "i just might die and become marathon roadkill" kind of race. it is what it is. i contemplated taking a DNF many, many times along the course. a lot of elements conspired in ... read more

Good luck tomorrow. I have a feeling it'll be hard to not push with the excitement of the thousands of other runners around you and the finish area of in front of the Legislature building. Enjoy it!

Good luck tomorrow Kyndra! Your mantra should be "this is just an lsd. this is just an lsd" and you should be fine :)

awesome update! Whatever helps to avoid injury - do it. It sucks being out of the game because you choose to do a rest day, but when you have no choice?! oh that really sucks!

@mike- thanks, i'm feeling ready! @thomas- yeah, it evolves for me too. i guess it's only natural to analyze our motives when we spend so much of our time running. @wiiqi- thanks for the motivation! positivity makes all the difference in one's training. @marc- have you done victoria before? i'm really looking forward to it! @jose- thanks! you're so right. taking an unscheduled rest day here and there isn't the end of the world, and it's downright smart if it can help you avoid injury.

got in a ~2.5mi swim. ironman distance open water swims ain't got nothing on me!
a long, night run on the trails. pace is a little off from the walking i did near the end. it was getting so dark by the time i finished that i didn't walk to risk running and tripping over something.
early morning run to disperse a little nervous energy before a dentist appointment. pulled my right hip flexor a little, i think.
Wow, well done Kyndra. Going Ultra is still something that I don't know if can or want to do. Part of it is courage, I'm sure, so good on ya. I've been exposed to this phenomenon through Canadian Death Race & Sinister 7 and I've seen it suck a few of us half-marathoners & marathoners in. You've gone so far in such a short period of time, so just, like, wow.

Awesome! I have these thoughts in my head about extending into ultra distances, but I'd have to run better than I have been through December.
