Maybe this run fell to pieces as the result of getting up later than expected. It's likely to be a subject of debate tonight as to whether or not the alarm wasn't properly set or whether I rolled over and went back to sleep, but either way, that's highly unusual behavior for me and Sally both. She always sets the alarm for me and I always get up when it goes off. I swear I never heard it but I'll bet she'll swear she set it.

Anyway, I woke up 15 minutes later than usual and wasted no time getting out the door. It was an absolutely gorgeous morning, one of the most perfect running days imaginable, and unfortunately, I was about to miss out on most of the opportunity to take full advantage of it. I was making up for lost time and progressing quite well...and then it hit me! "It" being the operative word for "the price of bananas" or "The Call of the Wild"!

At roughly the 1.5 mile mark, I was literally in no man's land. Too far from home and too far to the nearest blockhouse. The only option was to turn for home. I made it. Barely. But I made it. And that was the end of any more mileage for the day.

So, there it is. 3.2 miles. Hardly my normal Monday output. And with one school having 8th grade graduation tonight, this likely is all she wrote for today.

And with my other school having 8th grade graduation tomorrow night, it looks like Tuesday morning speed work is definitely on. To Matt, Patrick, Mike S., and any of the Tuesday morning regulars who might read this, I'm thinking Lobster Rolls tomorrow morning? What say ye?

Happy Monday everyone. May the road rise up to meet you and may you find the price of bananas comfortably affordable!

When you said "Hardly your normal Monday output", were you talking about the run, or the price of bananas?

@ Btb- I was also afraid there would be confusing regarding my reference "Tuesday morning regulars".

Glad you "made it back" Winston. Been a long time since I was in that situation. That is NO FUN whatsoever. I think the reduced mileage today will give you a great speed session tomorrow.

It was a great morning. Walmart market by your house has Thursday specials on bananas!

@ Joe - I'm sort of thinking you're right. My legs feel ready to tear it up tomorrow. @ Patrick - I ran the wrong direction to be anywhere close to Wal-Mart to take advantage of that. Dillon's doesn't offer their bananas that early either I'm afraid.

Looks like you will be well rested for tomorrow's lobster rollin after your shortened run today! I'm thinking about going tomorrow...maybe a few 'slower' people will be there too?? Not sure I want to do Lobster rolls. We'll see how my legs feel. Calves are sore today from that little 5k. Geez.

@ Karla - Well, congratulations on your overall female WIN on Saturday! Just awesome! The Lobster Roll ought to be just right for everyone tomorrow. It's just 60-20-10 over and over, so it should be easier for everyone to hang together.

I am intrigued to see what constitutes Lobsters Rolls in KS ... after a virtual rest day (though not one without stress) I imagine it will be faaaasst.

@ Jim - You don't really want the whole explanation of where I came up with the name Lobster Rolls for this fartlek cuz it's not as tasty as what you're familiar with. It's basically a series of repeat 60 sec jogging, 20 second striding, and 10 second sprinting. Like most fartleks, it sounds pretty tame, but it takes it's toll after a while.

@Winston - it especially take a toll given your definition of "jogging".

@Winston, maybe you should trying EATING a lobster roll, instead of running one. You never had a problem like this (at least not so early into a run) before you went vegetarian. Must be from a lack of iron..

@ Matt - Ha! Not the kind of run I brag about. Too much like the punchline of a few of our jokes at the senior 5-K :-)
