great Now THAT'S How to Taper For Boston! 18 mi 02:20 07:46 pace

Welcome to springtime in Kansas! Two days ago I was running shirtless and today I'm back in tights with the snow blinding me and sub-freezing wind chills! But after yesterday's admission that I was finally ready to begin my recovery phase of training, I decided to join the West Side Wackos at Health Strategies, for pretty much the same reason everyone else from our group was there--no one wanted to admit on Daily Mile that we wimped out! And I decided to follow everyone's sage advice and begin my taper for Boston by only running 7:46 pace on a mere 18 mile run. BUT, the good news is, I feel like I'm back from the dead! My legs bounced back from yesterday and I had a little charge in me although the snow and ice pretty much restricted any real intent to do speed work of any type. My Yaktracks pretty much bought the farm today too. As Fernando said, when your equipment starts to maim you, it's time to replace it. One of the springs on my Yaktrack snapped and was protruding out toward the opposite foot, actually gouging my ankle in a couple of spots from mile 12 on in. But, they served me well up to this point, so I won't complain too much more. Speaking of Fernando: Here's a special shout out to Mr. Martinez for being such a great training partner on these long, up-tempo distance runs! You have pushed me harder than I could have ever pushed myself and yet provided such great company and encouragement on these runs. Assuming Boston turns out to be the race I'm hoping it will be, I owe you and Zach a great deal of credit. Thanks for motivating all the West Side Wackos to get down to Health Strategies today also!

Thanks, Kevin! Same to you. Actually, I think I've trained for everything Boston can throw at me, other than heat and humidity, the two factors that zapped me at both of previous attempts at Boston! Maybe I need to go do a long run in Jamaica before April 19th?

Nice run today. We missed you at Panara. I stayed until 10:30 just chatting and catching up with everyone. The hot chocolate was super!

Man... I felt guilty enough and then I ran into Winston at the YMCA typing on daily mile about "not" wimping out.... GREAT JOB to all those that made it out.

Shout out back to you Mr. Kenton. It is pleasure running with you and I hope that I am in some small way able to help you. I am still up for that bluetooth idea we threw around last week.
