Hello there. It's been awhile. 3 days short of 4 months to be exact. Or 120 days if you really want to rub salt in my wounds. After the Dedmonton24 I decided to take some time off and rejuvenate the system. More specifically, take some time to fix my right hoof. It was March of last year that Plantar Fasciitis, or whatever was plaguing my heel, took hold and nearly a year since I last ran completely pain free.
This first run back was supposed to happen on Wednesday. Unfortunately I decided to comb my hair that morning. This action cause me to pinch a nerve in my back, and put that first run on the back-burner (pun accepted). I had just started walking to/from work on Tuesday, so comb-gate was probably good in hindsight, as I was feeling pretty beat up each evening from the 30 minute(x2) walks.
I never expected my offseason to go almost 4 months - I know, I know, 120 days. I was itching to put on my tights. After all, it was going to be my first winter running without glasses. Being able to know when I've wiped out was going to be a pretty big deal in itself.
Okay, okay, I'm getting to the best part.
So this morning I awoke. As I tend to do every day.
I dusted off my tights, a couple long shirts, jacket, socks, shoes, tuques, watch, and mittens. But that isn't all. I put them all ON!
I locked the door, stepped outside, and burned rubber.
Not really. I walked a couple blocks, mostly just waiting for my watch to connect to satellites. Then I did something I haven't done in awhile (120 days, dammit). I ran. It likely didn't look pleasant (dogs started howling and babies started crying for some reason). The rust wasn't falling off, every joint was creaking, every breath was a scream for help, but I was running, and everything was finally right once again (except for the "every joint was creaking, every breath was a scream for help" part).
I stuck to the plan. 15 minutes. I stopped a couple of times. Possibly to make it last longer. Possibly cause I am so out of shape.
And then it was over.
Now to wait and see how my foot feels tomorrow morning. The problematic area seemed to feel perfectly fine during the run. If it feels fine when I wake up I won't be stuck waiting (120 days - stop it!) long until my next run. That next run might even be tomorrow.
