Do not know - 220 less age may be only theoratical since I have gone to 195 bpm often on rides and otherwise too.and am still alive!

Max Heart Rate is to do with safety not life and death. It a rough guide to judge human capacity or assess it based on it. Sprinters routinely go above HR of 220, however that is not sustainable for a long time - neither safe over a long periods. But pushing to these limits for small bursts is perfectly ok.

You won't get there unless a huge sprint comes at the end of a hard done long ride exhaustion.
