Still burnt from the race, so recovery is #1. Forgot my HRM!

Well, according to a new article, you don't need one.
Eye roll. I was told on facebook last night that if I need a heart rate monitor to understand my level of exertion I am not in touch with my own body. 😬

I think it's good for people to begin with a HRM to learn the feel, then it's fine. But every time I stop wearing it for any length of time I end up getting run down, so it's certainly helping me recover!
Tell Maffetone, Brad Kearns, Stu Mittleman, Mark Allen, Mike Pigg and many others that you don't need one ;-)

Poop. The link was the conversation and it was a public post, so I was hoping you could see it.
To me, denying the need for a heart rate monitor is like telling someone to learn to drive slower but not look at the speedometer... Well guess what? If I need to drive 45mph, 65mph still seems really slow after cruising at 90 down the freeway...and 65 will get me a ticket in the 45 zone. 😉

After you've been training with an HRM for several months, go without it for several weeks and see how tired you feel! I know it keeps me from training too fast and while training at 11:30-12 mpm, I can still race a 5K in 7MPM.
