Ok--dumb question time. Where do you try to keep your HR at when you run? I dont have a HR monitor or GPS so I never have kept track of it.

Allen, for ultra races of 50 miles or longer, generally I keep it around 135 and for sure below 140. But it's different with everyone. Saturday I'll be keeping it around 135.
Thanks, Brenda...I actually think I have some low grade thing going on because i haven't been feeling myself this week....but I'll be there! ;-) Need the workout and it's nice to run on dirt for a change...

Allen, the huge difference this year is being forced to run on roads a lot. Down here because I'm nowhere near any dirt at all and up north at the house because we're buried under snow. Sunday's 16 mile road run nearly killed me after the fact. So I have decided that because of that, I need more of it and am going to add it into my training, maybe every other week a long road run up along Rte 4 (hilly and high).

depends on deadlines, family schedule etc, furthest out right now is Mt Taylor 50k end of September. I like your planning strategy using stepping stones. Did that with first full last fall using multiple halves as training/race runs.
