Trying not to obsess and take a few days from running. The heavy pack is causing some inflammation on my left hip. Will bike instead.

When I was training for a 50 miler I got a bit of pain in the hip as well, a rehab exercise that really helps, called the clam shell. Lie on your side and bend your legs at an angle feet together and open and close keeping feet together. Do like 3 sets of 50 each side. Really targets the little muscles around the hips. May not feel like it does much but my pain never returned so I do them all the time now.

Thank you Maggie, I totally can see helping. My physio guy told me was the mi glute/ piriformis a while back and told me that exercises like side raises Jane Fonda style would help. Thanks for the info. With all the running I tend to skip doing the maintenance exercises like the ones you suggested. Will try it out. Thanks again

Norma got a great tip a month or so ago with using a foam roller to roll my IT band and have it to be not only amazing but the best thing I ever did after running. Been putting CHIA powder in my shakes at night & using a great concotion of Madrian ornages, navel, banana, orange juice, strawberries, yogurt, protein powder & 1 teaspoon of match green tea all blended and it has been the start & finish of my morning run with great results. Also Beetroot juice is great for runners for stanama & inflammation:)

Sheer misery. It was cold and wet. Not sure why i felt it today more than other days. Maybe because I left too late and ended up running until 2:30pm with only breakfast on my system.

Although I am training for distance, adding speed training is beneficial. I make sure not to add it on the really long training weeks.
