RUN
good 12.32 mi 02:18 11:12 pace
Loma Alta, conquered! 2500' feet of climbing rewarded me with an awesome view of SF from the top. Now I can watch football, drink beer and eat meatloaf for the rest of the day with a clear conscience.

RUN
good Santa Margarita Island 5 Mi 5.73 mi 00:51 08:54 pace
While I saw no skunks, I could certainly smell them. Couldn't sleep today so I was up a little early and tacked on a little bit to my normal 5 mile route.

Nice. With the extra mileage you passed me on the leaderboard. I flaked and haven't run today (hmm.. guess it's not too late).

I have no doubt by the end of the week you'll be at the top, where you belong. Being friends with the SF Marathon means I'm never at the top!

There were owls hooting at me this morning. Awesome - and much better than the skunks my wife keeps meeting!

RUN
Costa Mesa 4.25 mi 00:35 08:20 pace
Definitely sick. No voice, disgusting stuff coming up out of my lungs. Gotta get those miles in anyway, especially when on the road. Quite warm back in OC - 81 as the high yesterday!

RUN
Las Gallinas Loop 5.12 mi 00:43 08:24 pace
Zoom! Starting to feel a little scratch in my throat, likely related to sick kids at the Cub Scout camp-out on Sunday. Bummer to miss a long run AND come back sick...

RUN
Las Gallinas Loop 5.1 mi 00:44 08:41 pace
At last, the clouds return! Really starting to like my new shoes. They're definitely a little on the stiff side but I'm growing to like it. We'll see if that lasts when I get back to 15 milers in ... read more

Mizuno Creation 12. I've mostly been in Brooks Ghosts for the last year or so but Marin Running Company doesn't carry them. (My daughter's classmate is the owner - gotta support 'em, I guess.) I've had good luck with Mizuno in the past but they seemed fairly short-lived compared to other brands.

Kapow! 28 degrees is a little nippy when wearing only shorts.

RUN
Terra Linda - Sleepy Hollow D... 8.06 mi 01:30 11:10 pace
Quick 8 miles before heading out to the piano recital. I say "quick" but I felt slow as could be. Out for CES (work) all week and had the "tradeshow funk" when I returned so I ... read more

Aka: Jerusalem cricket. I've never had the courage to pick one up - they look like they could give a nasty bite.

RUN
good 8 mi 01:28 11:00 pace
Out earlier than usual for a Sunday long run since I'm out of town the beginning of the week. Sunrise while out on the trail is awesome - I should do it more often! Found a giant potato bug and p... read more

good Las Gallinas Loop 6.1 mi 00:54 08:53 pace
What do you do when your daughter wakes you up at 4:30 and won't let you get back to sleep? Snuggle for 30 minutes and then get up early to go run and tack on an extra mile or two.

RUN
good Santa Margarita Island 5 Mi 5.2 mi 00:46 08:50 pace
First run in my new kicks, a pair of Mizuno Creation 12's, picked up at Marin Running Company in San Anselmo. They're a bit heaver than the Brooks Ghosts I've been using the past several months bu... read more

RUN
alright Terra Linda - Sleepy Hollow D... 7.24 mi 01:24 11:36 pace
An especially slow long run today. Part of it is still recovering from that cold but part of it is missing a trail and going cross-country. Or, rather, taking a trail that dead-ended and refusing... read more

RUN
alright Las Gallinas Loop 5.12 mi 00:45 08:44 pace
On the mend, at last. Feeling better today. I'll give a "long" run (8 miles or so) a whirl this weekend. Time for me to find a new race and new goal as the new year starts.

blah Santa Margarita Island 5 Mi 5.1 mi 00:45 08:50 pace
I still have gunk coming up out of my lungs but went out anyway. Just 2 miles in I felt terrible and really wanted to turn around to come home. Stuck to it for the rest of route and struggled hom... read more

I haven't run in a week. This cold is killing me. I'm going to get out there tomorrow for a short one with my wife since we have "babysitters" in town - my parents.

You can run with a cold - I have been. It's not fun, but it's do-able. Something like DayQuil removes most of the symptoms, other than feeling generally lousy.
Oh, maybe you just mean the cold weather.

When I have a head cold I actually love to run. It sure beats decongestants for getting things flowing... This time, though, I've been waylaid with a nasty chest cold, which makes it hard to breathe, let alone run. I'm feeling human again (mostly) so I'll muscle through tomorrow.

Oh yeah, a chest cold = no running. Glad you're on the way to recovery.

RUN
good Santa Margarita Island 5 Mi 5.13 mi 00:46 08:57 pace
Man, it was cold! Two shirts, tights and gloves! There was frost on the ground and honest-to-God ice on my car from water dripping off the roof. Who said it didn't get cold in the Bay Area?
-
Good for you for getting out there in the cold! I usually can't bring myself to do it.
