Ran a "sort-of" half with my gal Izzy and her hubby today. It was the Inaugural Annapolis Half Marathon. I didn't train at all, which was fine and fun at this pace. While the schwag was nice, this course needs some assistance for next year.
I didn't train for this for a number of reasons, but the #1 reason was because it was sold as a very flat course.... Um, it wasn't! We had a late start of 7:20 for a race that should have started at 7 a.m. My friends needed a few bathroom and water breaks... Also, having a race on a course where miles 7-9.5 are the width of 1/2 of the NCR trail for going in and back leaves NO ROOM TO PASS anyone was trying... To say the least. I ran with Izzy and Doug for 10 miles and went about 15 seconds ahead of them for the last 2. I enjoyed just sitting back and looking at the scenery and having a no pressure race/run. This will be the last 1/2 I have this approach and feeling for. I will do some base maintenance running for the next two months and then start to REALLY train for a race. I can't wait to run for a PR! However, runs like these have their place and are fun. The flat/raw/official run time with my friends' breaks was 2:14 and change, those breaks make a difference :D
