I only had time for a short run today, but I tried to make it slightly speedy.

Who knew that eating a salad 45 minutes before a run could make you feel so awful?

  3. RUN

One 2.5-mile loop with the dog, one on my own.

My Memphis runner friend Shelly H. happened to be in the area today so I took her out to Salem Lake for a run! It was a gorgeous day and I was glad to see someone from my 'other life.' We... read more

Well, this did not go as I expected. I was actually shooting for 7:30, with high hopes of 7:00. It just didn't come together like that. It was extremely humid all day, threatening rain, but th... read more

I am sure it hurts... But keep in mind that you didn't quit, you finished... I had the same thing in my 50, and beat my self up for it but realized that it did more that I fell apart and finished than it did that I had a great day. It shows character and drive to have a bad day and still finish! Great job!

It takes a lot of guts and heart to finish a race when you know you've missed your goal. Well done! Maybe not a PR, but way better than a DNF!

Thanks, y'all. I know I will never be a contender in these races, I compete only with myself. And perhaps that is why I felt so disappointed after this event--I felt I had prepared myself well and was mentally ready for this challenge. Over the course of the day I just teetered back and forth between mental toughness and physical toughness. It would be good to have both!
And oh, yes. I am very happy to continue my streak of never having a DNF or a DFL!

#raceweek nice and easy jog with the dog. She was much better today than on our last run. Still, she shares some traits with me, like going out too fast and then shuffling to the finish.

It's a good thing I am tapering this week and taking it easy on all exercise, because Renly was really not feeling it today. Well, the first two miles were at about 9:00. But the last one was ... read more

Not gonna lie: I didn't do all 8 800s that I was supposed to do. I just had no juice and I thought it would be better to do 6 good 800s rather than a few sloppy ones.
