Yankee Springs Trail Run Half Marathon 13.1 mi 02:35 11:49 pace

The Yankee Spring Trail Run is near Gun Lake which is near Wayland, MI. They hosted a half, full and ultra. It is in its 2nd year and the place is just gorgeous. The trails are meant for mountain bikes and they're very well maintained. A few parts reminded me of Seattle. Big trees covered in moss felt like a fairy tale and an area called the pines where all you could see were the bottoms of evergreen trees.

I started with a group of women for the first two miles. Men were either behind or way in front of this dozen. This was a 10:22 pace. It felt good but I had went to bed late b/c friends were in ton and had a headache due to two gin martinis :( Oops. Now I remember why I don't drink often. The fresh air made me forget about the headache until the end.

But I did bite it twice almost three times. I fell hard, but luckily not on some river rocks on the course... but that's where I lost the pace line and dropped back. Then I fell again at about 10 miles. Then I hit the 10 mile aid station, had a banana, a bunch of men caught up to me and I caught a second wind. I started passing all kinds of people.

They said the race was really 13.4 so my time is better than the Potato Creek trail half marathon from a few week's ago. I'll take that. I'm doing the first ever Ada trail half marathon in two weeks - looking forward to it - but afraid it may be hot.
