4.5 on the dreadmill....4.5 out in the ice & snow. Outside was so much better than the indoor run. Even with 2 snow plows honking at me to get out of the way!

Ran outdoors in the sun! Thank God for this sunny 40 degree day. I needed it. I was in super slow motion today trying to learn "Chirunning". Focus. Focus. Focus. Having to think about what you're doing while running is really hard!

I LOVE Chirunning!!! I started that years ago and it's been the best thing I've ever done! I remember my first try with it. It was a horrible run. I bent my body weird (instead of leaning) and spilled all my chi!! Focusing is SO important (as you already know). I'm glad you're chirunning!!!
I think you might be right about the indoor track. When I go a certain direction (i.e. clockwise) on the track, it bothers my ankle vs the other direction. Maybe it's the constant turning??

Go Chi running! I picked it up less than a year ago. I have been running injury-free ever since.

You guys are so inspiring! I am determined to stick with it. I could feel myself screwing up, and would literally stop, refocus, start over. No wonder it took me 36 minutes to run 3 miles! lol That last mile I could feel it really starting to "click". Low and behold, running seemed effortless at that point. Even with my knee letting me know it was there. Amazing.

Zumba sounds so fun. I'd like to take one, but my gym does not offer one for after work hour.

good for you. Wish I could do early stuff but I am not a morning person!

I'm not a morning person AT ALL. Totally the opposite as a matter of fact. This will be interesting to say the least. lol

Frank, most of our classes ARE offered after work hours, but it's difficult for me to take those multiple week nights because of my kids (homework, dinner, needing attention, etc). lol

Knee was killing me by lap 12. I took it until I couldn't take it any longer. So much for 5 miles, but I'd rather listen to what my body has to say than keep pushing it.

Oh Heather, I'm so sorry!! (((HUGS))) It was good to listen to your body. Have you been to the doctor lately about your knee?
That sucks, Heather!!! Are you taking an anti-inflammatory or something before your runs? Don't know if it would help or not....just a thought! Hope you're able to get back on track real soon....injuries SUCK!

naproxen twice a day (from the doc). I can FOR SURE tell when I don't take it.

The Knee: I've taken the week off to rest my knee (it's killing me!). It's an IT band issue. So I'm resting & icing & massaging & stretching like clockwork. I bought a foam roller to massage the band, and I'm really hoping that combined ... read more

I suffered from ITBS after my half marathon. I went to PT for it. I posted the stretches on my blog (November) http://mynewlife-manderz.blogspot.com/. Check it out.

I hope your knee feels better soon! As you already read, I am having the same issue. I did the foam roller at the gym and it HURTS!!

Oops, posted to the wrong place earlier....hope the knee is better soon!

Oh no Heather!!! IT Band is the WORST!! I had problems with mine during my full marathon. It set my running back a while. Don't mess around with it.
Keep doing what your doing (rest, ice, roller, etc) and do those stretches that Amy posted. Also, I've been reading as of late that it's important to keep up with the stretches and rolling even after it seems the problem it gone. It will keep it from coming back.
I'll be praying that is gets better VERY soon for you!!!

Heather ran 5.5 miles in 60 mins injured 5.5 mi / 01:00 10:54 pace
One word. Blisters. I didn't realize the Y closed so early on Sunday, so my 8 mile run was cut short. Oh well. PS....I'm so sick of running on the indoor track. Thank God it's going to be warmer this week. YAY!
-
Have you tried changing your socks? That may help with the blisters. I was thrilled for temps in the 40s this weekend!

I picked up some of the injinji socks Mel told me about....so I'm hoping that gets me back into the game soon. Oh, and I've been rolling the IT band to help with my knee. So far, I'm feeling better!
Hope YOU start feeling better soon! Get some rest. That seems to be the only thing that really helps.

I'm going to take off working out until Sunday and then hopefully I can hit it hard and get back on track. We're traveling tomorrow so won't have time anyway.
