Saw a bad stack today. 1. Always wear a helmet. 2. Get a RoadID

I say always wear a helmet because this accident happened right in front of me on the way home from work, on the Westside bike path. A couple was walking towards me in the opposite lane, ... read more

I spent three years mountain biking with crappy technical skills in a rocky landscape so there's no question about my feelings on helmets -- absolutely necessary 100% of the time. And of late my 4yr old son bikes with me, and I've watched him fall on his face enough times for me to consider wearing helmets for walking, eating and bathing too.

  4. Ok, this time with the actual vote links!
Should I do the 100 Miles of Nowhere this year? The date is very close to my tour.
    YES http://j.mp/9T3YFP
    NO http://j.mp/ddIhmK

I find it tough enough to do 25 miles on a trainer. 100 miles is just insane! I don't know how you do it. Btw-I voted yes. Your video from last year was inspiring.

I voted yes, but I also think it would be a good idea to do some kind of "virtual" bike ride :P Bernard, does it count if she takes the rollers outside and does it there?

Honestly, I'm down with doing the 100 miles. I want to do the 100 miles. It's just the memory of the sheer torture of the rollers is still strong. I'd rather do it outside. Thinking maybe a River Road/9W loop. That might disqualify though - too big and def going somewhere.

Left left, look right, look bike.

  6. One of the bike tourers I follow on Twitter had an encounter with machete wielding thugs in Dakar a few days ago (which has put a stop to his tour for a little while - you can read about that here. http://www.thebigafricacycle.com/general-posts/1550 )

Silly me. Posted the wrong link. It was supposed to be to the vote pages. I'll post again. (But I'm with you Justin. I've already said I pass the video torch this year)

@Will. St. Pattys. Also, nice weather = more people out in general, including those who've just pulled their dusty bikes out of storage and who swerve and meander all over the place making us all look bad. *grumble*

meandering swervers - almost as unpredictable as the drunken staggerers... good job on not hitting anyone and getting a snack on the way ;)
