Finished my first 50k training run under 6 hours - I'm feeling pretty good about myself. So that's what it's like to run 30 miles. Every step after mile 27 felt as if someone was hammering the bottom of my feet with a baseball bat - not to mention I was hit by bird droppings at mile 27. Well, honestly it was slightly easier than I expected - thanks to the relatively good weather and condition. Additionally, special thanks to the random runner lady, at mile 30, who yelled "you can do it" and "keep going". I have to admit, the most bizarre aspect, however, of all this distance is eating while running - it was hard to swallow food sometimes. Now it's time to rest up and wait for Irene!

Awesome! I want to be strong enough to do that!!!

Wowza! That is incredible!! Well, except for the bird droppings... ;) Congrats on such an amazing accomplishment! Stay safe during Irene... Make sure you have plenty of bourbon and pizza.

@Carla Believe me, the hardest part was all the work and consistency leading up to the big run. It took me 6 hours to do this run - but much much longer to prepare for it. Although there are moments when I felt like sitting down or taking a nap on the road, I also had good moments when my pace just felt like I was floating in air. You just have to keep believing - that one step at a time going forward, no matter how slow, will get you to the end.

@Veronica Irene has been "downgraded" (like many things in USA) to category 1 this morning! I'm gonna be watching UFC with friends with many pizzas!

Amazing run Kevin. I am more than impressed. I can't even imagine running for nearly 6 hours. The miles where you felt like you were floating on air must have felt great. I love your attitude on this, one step at a time...That is something I need to keep in mind. One again, VERY, very impressive run. Have a good weekend!

Truly amazing! What an incredible accomplishment!! Enjoy that pizza, you deserve it! So, just curious, you said it took a lot of prep work to do this run- like what? Did you have people to help you- provide food/ water?

@Kristen Thanks. I was referring to the training build-up on mileage and conditioning - it took me a while to be able to reach enough confidence and physical capability. But it also took me a while to figure what and when to eat, how much fluid and electrolyte intake is necessary, and how to handle the unexpected. I'm quite meticulous given my nature of being an engineer. I did have a friend drive by and refilled my water bottles because I wasn't sure how much water I'd need.
