The other thing I like to do when I can already do the distance is to do a couple of full speed test runs several weeks apart to see how my speed work is progressing. So for the Monument 10K, I plan to do a full distance speed test at my goal pace every few weeks. Last year I cut 1.5 minutes per mile off my time with that approach. This year I don't want to lose my marathon ability. So, I will still do a weekly long run cycle of 16, 18, & 20 miles while I focus on speed for the shorter race.

I am a huge fan of the run/walk method. Galloway is a great method. My marathon PR was done with a one minute walk every mile from the first mile to the last. It works well for me. Good luck.

Yup! Don't worry, people will tell you during your first walk break funny things. At MM 16 when you pass them with your run/walk you will have the opportunity to respond ;)

It works and you will be surprised at the results. I wouldn't be surprised if you PR a half/full with it.
