alright Race - X Terra Black Mountain... 9.9 mi 01:16 07:40 pace
Tough race. Ostensibly a 15k, but the Garmin showed it at 9.9 miles instead of 9.3 (all of the mile markers matched up until #8, though). The recent rains left the trails rutted; twisted my ankle... read more

You aren't the only one. I saw about 20 bikes all huddled in Tartine's. I went out for a long bike today with a lady that told me she and 4 other friends bailed 3 miles in. Yesterday was ugly. You'll find a way to make up those miles this week. Better to be safe.

Killer pace! I like the way you do your intervals. I may have to try that out. The wind was kind of bothersome today.

It's something I picked up when I was working with a coach from Carmichael Training Systems. For your "foundation" runs, if you're going to run, say, 50 minutes, a good way would be to do it as follows:
10 minute warmup
4 x 6 minutes "steady state" w/ 4 minutes in between
The steady states should not be at an all out pace; you want them to be at a pace that you feel like you could maintain for a while, but one that requires you to focus in order to maintain. Try 20 seconds slower than 10k pace.about 3 years ago • Like

Ran out of space, but the theory is that you get a lot of the physiological benefits of doing a hard run without breaking down your body so much.

I was definitely pushing. This run began with a steep climb (better to simulate Wildflower) and was about 40% dirt trails / 60% pavement. A few more miles would have brought the average speed down I suspect.

A few blocks from home I stopped to take a couple of pics in La Jolla, between the Cove and Windansea. Weather cleared up for the last 45 minutes of the ride, but the surf was still pretty rough.
