Day 80. Easy taper run at the track. 6 days until #Umstead100!!

  2. good 9 mi / 01:36 10:39 pace

Day 79: Nine miles at Rockefeller with Cathy, Tony, Shannon (Hi Shannon!), Dave and Eric. My last "real" run before Umstead. Every day from here on will be 1-2 miles.

  3. great 1.02 mi / 00:10:05 09:53 pace

Day 78. Fake zero/rest day on a treadmill. And ... a photo shoot! (They put HamsterWheels in at the office and Carl photographed me running on one - raises awareness of their existence.)

  4. good 4.72 mi / 00:52 11:00 pace

Day 77. Hook Mountain run with Cathy, Derrick and Scott. I walked up The Hook (I'm supposed to be tapering, after all) but otherwise ran pretty fast, especially at the end. Nice day.

I've run Self-Transcendence twice myself. The trails are incredible! The Long Path runs the ridge between the lake and the river, and that has some awesome single-track. This race does, however, does not go on them.. Hook mountain is a mostly-paved road that goes down to the river, where you run on a completely smooth unpaved road for 1.5 miles. In this race, 10 miles are asphalt, and 3 miles are nontechnical dirt road. There is no reason to bring trail shoes.

Thanks Steve! Exactly what I wanted to know. I've run the Self-Transcendence in 2007,2008,and 2009, we've probably run side by side some where along the way.

  5. great 3.92 mi / 00:40 10:08 pace

Day 76b. Run with Tony at Rockefeller State Park. On my way home from a crappy run he called and I immediately accepted the invitation. We ran lots of hills, and I attacked them aggressively (probably harder than I should have). Ended up with a really ... read more

  6. alright 1.2 mi / 00:16 13:43 pace

Day 76a. This run was pointless. The weather was so nice but water was still high everywhere and the first two places I went were closed as a result and the mud was crazy and downed trees were everywhere and meh.. Whatever. Good hills though. Then, on ... read more

  7. alright 1 mi / 00:10:16 10:16 pace

Day 75. Fake zero at the track. Taper for #Umstead100 has officially started, and I need a rest day anyway.

  8. great 6.11 mi / 01:03 10:18 pace

Day 74: Rockland Lake / Hook Mountain with Cathy. We ran The Hook hard and I felt great. A solid solid workout for me. This, by the way, is my last hard effort before the Umstead 100 miler, in 12 days.
