good Thursday Part II 9.23 mi 01:00 06:29 pace

Bit of a mixed bag tonight - started with 10 minutes easy, followed by 20 minutes steady, then 10 minutes @ approx LT pace. It was nice to run easy for another 5 minutes after this, but the ramp back up to LT pace for 10 minutes was tough. Finished off with a steady 5 minutes to round off a solid hour.

Note to self - easy = 140bpm, steady = 150 bpm, LT = 160bpm

Great one, Steve. All this HR talk makes me wonder about my optimal zones. How did you identify yours?

Kind of winging it at the moment, Andrew. Tried 135 as my "easy" pace, but it was a little too easy. This week I'm going with 140 and adding 10bpm for steady and another 10bpm for hard or LT. My current max is about 170 as far as I can tell, and resting HR usually 40 or slightly below.

Amazing how different HR zones are. My max is 200 but my typical resting is close to yours, about 45. I think your heart must be the size of a football, Steve!

The 170 was from a couple of races earlier in the year, Andrew. Good info, Marie - I didn't know that.

Once you find your appropriate heart rate its really helpful in training. I love running off of heart rate so much better than running off of pace. I can tell if I am tired, dehydrated, stressed.
