I like the clearing your head part better than the justifying part. :) Getting out there the day after a race is a good accomplishment. Live for the moment, Stacy! Love that motto.

Something I heard once about "slow and steady" - that's the way to do it. Impressive that you are able to still run so far with your injury. Just take it nice and easy and let it keep healing. Good going Stacy!

Hey there. These plateaus and ruts happen, but if you keep working, they also pass! I think logging the workouts (even retroactively) may help show you just how hard you've been working and help motivate you to keep going. And as for giving up beer, fuck that. Wine is my poison, and I run in large part so I DON'T have to give it up. I say drink the same, run more. Either way, you'll get through this. Hang in there. :)

Stacy - I like to get little rewards. I treat dailymile as my "gold star" for the day. How many miles did I go? one star for each. How long did I do weights? stars... etc . :)

ps do what you gotta do, but it's my philosophy that I will NEVER give up ANYTHING I enjoy unless my doctor tells me to. Sure I'll cut back, but I won't deprive myself of what I want because when I do that I get back in the yo-yo dieting realm.

I used to have all sorts of low back issues, which would always get worse with impact exercise. It was part of why I hated running. Since switching to Vibrams and barefoot I have had no back trouble. I don't claim barefoot is a fix-all or a guarantee against injury. It's not. But it definitely reduces impact on the body when done right. Sorry to evangelize, but I feel your pain!

It was so much fun. I did catch a little air, Augie... and I'm happy to report that I didn't eat snow once. :) The down side is that I can no longer keep up with my snowboarding son. His need for speed borders on insanity. This may be a sign that I'm getting older. ;)
