  1. RUN
good Georgia Tech 4.46 mi 00:34 07:33 pace

Out to run in probably the best weather in Atlanta this week - 66 degrees at 6 AM. Powered through 4 miles after squats and power cleans this morning. Seven days to the Peachtree Road Race.

  2. RUN
good Franklin, TN 5.53 mi 00:46 08:14 pace

In Franklin, TN yesterday and this morning for work. I took my gear and went out for a run this morning as the time zones had me awake at 5:30 local time.

    Peachtree is sneaking up quickly!

  3. RUN
    Island hopper 4.18 mi 00:33 07:54 pace

Vacation run! Did 4 miles between Sea Island and Hunting Island SC. Cool weather and overcast made for an easier run.

  4. RUN
    Saturday morning 1.83 mi 00:25 13:49 pace

took the kids out before breakfast. More walking than running.

  5. RUN
great First Run in Months 6.42 mi 00:51 08:01 pace

First run in months, and only my second run over 4 miles in 2012. Considering it was done on the roads of midtown Atlanta mid-morning, my pace isn't far off of my 10k pace.

Great run and that is an awesome pace for not running in ages!

Great to hear from you Dennis. Glad you survived that mid-town mid-morning traffic dodge.

Thanks for the comments. I've been busy in the gym with strength training and my diet has been tight over this time period as well, so these two factors no doubt helped.

  6. RUN
    good 6x400 5.17 km 00:34 10:30 pace

I did 6x400m today, continuing my speed work from Last week. I'll post more on my blog later today. Best 400m time was 1:20.

  7. RUN
    good Track Workout - 6x200 3.83 km 00:21 08:44 pace

First track workout of the 2012. I want to run some adult track and field over the summer and need to get some speed first. It also feels like the right way to accompany some of my weightlifting ... read more

I keep trying to convince my husband to do the Atlanta Track Club's T&F meets in May. He was a good sprinter in college. My nagging is not working! :)

I was never on track and field at any level - so this is a motivation to get out and do sprint work that will help me in my soccer pursuits (and a new competitive outlet). Forcing me to get out and practice so I can be fast by summer!

  13. RUN
good Forsyth County Greenway 7.71 mi 01:01 07:54 pace

Good run. Hit a bit of a blood sugar drop after 5 or 6 miles, but powered through it. More details: http://j.mp/tAarUB

    • Bill H.

Yeah, I hate that feeling - it creeps down into my legs and makes it hard to keep going. Nice run on the Greenway, though Dennis.

  14. RUN
    1/2 mile intervals 5.04 mi 00:37 07:22 pace

Staying intown for a couple of days. Decided to get out and do 1/2 mile intervals. Started off running the fast intervals around 3:10, fell off some. Ran Peachtree Road. Finished 5 intervals.

  15. Found this article interesting. I followed something similar leading up to the 1/2 marathon last month. http://www.marksdailyapple.com/how-to-fuel-a-marathon/

Interesting read. I eat better than I used to (less fast food, fewer frozen dinners), but I know so little about what % of my diet is carbs, what fruits or meats are doing for me (or not doing for me), etc. I'm going to eat pasta tomorrow because I know I'll be taking in carbs the day before the race, but that's about as scientific as I get. I know I'd help myself to get more educated.

Self tinkering and analysis has been a hobby of mine for a while. I was as much a bread/pasta/cereal eater as anyone before this summer and I gradually cut back until none. I like it has done for me!

Well put, Dennis. Can't believe you were getting by on 6 hours of sleep a night. The more I run, the more sleep I need, but sometimes that's in the form of a nap.

I'm not sure "Getting by" is the right description - more like surviving and finding ways to survive.

There's something to be said for making the most of your time, and the "Sleep when your dead" lifestyle, but I'm a lot happier today than when I was cutting corners on sleep and diet.
