good Scotland Run 10K 6.2 mi 00:53 08:35 pace

This was my first race since the Philly Marathon last November. Definitely feeling a bit rusty!! Overall I did quite well given that I had no idea what to expect out of my performance. I have not been training or running a lot compared to last season. I knew that two years ago I averaged an 8:59 pace so I just wanted to beat that. The race was pretty crowded which annoyed me for the first 1-2 miles but I guess it also helped push me along and give me something to chase and keep pace with. I was in a pretty "dark place" around miles 3.5-4. My heart rate was sky-high, I thought I was going to puke, I was overdressed/overheating and I wanted to walk. I was actually calculating how many seconds I could stop without busting my goal time. Horrible! But I persevered and even though I slowed down at times to lower my HR I came away with a PR for the 10K. I have run faster in this distance though, funny enough..in the 10K in the NYC Triathlon. I'm completely aware that I have a triathlon in 3 weeks and I think I'm totally going to suck at the run after riding the bike. I'm just not there training-wise yet. But I'll follow my new motto: "MAKE IT WORK." Fun race out there today. I've been missing the NYRR scene. I bumped into a few friends and even stuck around for the raffle hoping to win a trip to Scotland!

Splits:
8:37 (crowded)
8:11 (rolling hills..pretty fast!)
8:13 (Harlem Hill, really!??!)
8:36 (feeling like total SHIT!)
8:30 (trying desperately to maintain pace)
8:32 (felt like I really slowed it down)

Well the race was actually in New York City's Central Park, but it was a bit chilly and dreary like Scotland!
