I think this race encapsulates all that has been my year: throw a bunch of really crappy stuff my way (stomach virus that leaves me in tears one day, 1 meal a day for the 4 days leading up to the race, etc. etc.)...last night I sat on my floor with an ice pack on my swollen stomach and wondered whether I should run...plan? wait until the AM. I definitely wasn't 100% when I got up, but I had to try...so, off to SI I went. calm pre-race. and then off I went. kept a very moderate pace (with the exception of a few oddball miles thrown in) and just kept hydrating and eating small bites here and there. stomach really bothered me through the first 10 miles, but then it seemed to relax and let me run. hit halfway at 1:39:31 and just kept trucking. queens, queensboro, 1st ave, bronx, 5th ave (OUCH), CP...I simply kept my head in the game and my mind focused. and boom! 3:18 and some change (I think 3:18:12...)...not a PR, but a NYC PR and a great race under adverse circumstances. for my records: 8:20, 7:00, 7:23, 7:30, 7:28, 7:31, 7:38, 7:39, 7:40, 7:24, 7:43, 7:29, 7:37, 7:35, 7:45, 7:43, 7:23, 7:20, 7:20, 7:38, 7:26, 7:19, 7:55, 7:33, 7:30, 1:38...I'm pretty damn proud, if I do say so myself.
