Nice bit of sun, slightly chilly. Managed shorts today without a problem. About +5C. Concentrating on running form again, so I wasn't too fussed about pace. Having said that, really concentrating on forefoot striking does seem buy me a faster pace without much extra effort. Amazing. I'm going to continue to practice this new form, and will probably invest in some new shoes to assist.

I've been looking a Newtons, but they're a bit pricey. New Balance NB800's look like a sensible choice. I've had NB shoes before and was impressed with the build quality.

I'm really trying not be be overly influenced by the running form/barefoot debate, preferring to reach my own conclusions. But my own experiences are already quite significant.

Looking at my Asics Kinsei's now, I'm thinking that heel area really is built for heel-striking.

nice run simon.. good that you are treading carefully with the barefoot/running form debate... my take is to make small adaptations to my own form AND training.. i don't think you can make progress in one area, without the other

Absolutely. I know this will take some getting used to. Shorter strides, becoming conscious about foot strike, it's quite a challenge. And I know that my left foot certainly does not hit the ground in exactly the way my right foot does. Neutral symmetric runners have it waaay too easy :)

Considering that you weren't worrying about pace; you performed strongly, Simon. Good luck with the adjustments; we all make them over time.

You are doing great Simon! Happy to learn you have discovered the joys of running on your centre of gravity, this will pay dividends for you over time :)

    Good run mate
Though I am still lost on the foot strike thing.
Does age effect all these changes you are trying.
My wife a runner for years suddenly decided her arches were wrong, got orthotics and it really screwed her. She ended up with Plantar fasciitis and it ruinied her running. So much so she now only runs a max of three miles before it plays up.
Sometimes I think to radically change a running style you have had for years may create more problems than it solves

Kevin: That's certainly a concern. My legs do feel different after a run, and I'm going to be watching closely. If things start to hurt, I'll back off. I'm not a slave to the foot strike thing, but if there are benefits, I want to see if I can realise them. If not, I'll just carry on as before.

Who knows? maybe forefoot just isn't for everybody?

PS In my comments before I wasn't saying that you are old, Christ I am fifty this year and still think I am 23

No worries Kevin, I didn't read it like that! I'm 42 in April, for the record.
