Short tempo run to start the running week. Tried to keep the pace outside of my comfort zone. Even managed a 7:53 at mile 2, which is fast for me. Pleased about that. Weather pleasant, wore shorts and tee.

Simon ran 13.63 miles in 2 hours and 4 mins and 41 secs alrightFlash, Canal & Byrom Wood – 13.63 mi / 02:05 09:08 pace
Quite a bit of headwind along the canal, so this felt harder than last week, although the overall time is similar. Used one gel as before. Tried to stick with the forefoot form as I have throughout the week.
Given the headwind, and my similar pace - m... read more

Don't know what you've changed, but it shows in your postings and workouts, Simon. Excellent work my friend.

Simon ran 9.48 miles in 1 hour and 24 mins alrightFlash & Byrom Wood – 9.48 mi / 01:24 08:54 pace
Nice bit of sun, slightly chilly. Managed shorts today without a problem. About +5C. Concentrating on running form again, so I wasn't too fussed about pace. Having said that, really concentrating on forefoot striking does seem buy me a faster pace with... read more

nice run simon.. good that you are treading carefully with the barefoot/running form debate... my take is to make small adaptations to my own form AND training.. i don't think you can make progress in one area, without the other

No worries Kevin, I didn't read it like that! I'm 42 in April, for the record.

Simon ran 5.78 miles in 49 mins goodbyrom wood loop – 5.78 mi / 00:50 08:37 pace
Beautiful morning. Trying hard to concentrate on running style. Forefoot striking does not seem to come naturally, I think I'm possibly more of a mid-footer. Anyway, paying close attention to running form appears to have it's benefits. Pace times highe... read more

Great work today; also think its a great idea to refine biomechanics and form as one gains more prowess and experience over time.

I'm doing the same to try and overcome a left knee pain (since 2 years now). It's a bit hard to change one's "natural" stride but I think if we keep focusing on it it will eventually come naturally. And yes my pace seems also to be slowly increasing. Keep it up.

Cheers. Harder than it looks to change form.

Great run today. Beautiful weather - shorts and sunglasses. Wore wind jacket as there was still frost on the ground in parts. Managed to maintain a reasonable pace, which is difficult as parts of my route are along the canal (Leeds Liverpool) path whic... read more

Neil: No, strangely enough I'm not. Did try to enter the great north run but I didn't get selected in the ballot. Would you believe I'm doing this for the sole reason that I enjoy doing it? How crazy is that?

Freezing fog today. Actually dressed properly, with hat, gloves and an extra layer (The "Bear Grylls" merino wool base layer to be precise. Great bit of kit!) Tried to keep the pace a little faster than usual in line with my overall objective... read more

Nice work, Simon: further and faster. I've noticed your progress in both areas. Continued success.

Nice distance for an early morning run Simon. Glad you were dressed properly. Now if you could have run about midday you would have got away with shorts and a long sleeve top ( yes I did say shorts) because here it is nice warm winter sunshine

Did I read this correctly - you were dressed properly, lol.

Gloveless (a mistake, it was cold) run to kick of the running week. Travelling schedule this week will make getting the miles in a bit of a challenge. Mornings are getting lighter, more birdsong. Maybe it will warm up soon, too.

Simon ITS STILL COLD remember. The other day you wore shorts when it was too cold. Come on you gotta get properly prepared. It wont be warm enough for no gloves still at least May the way things are going with the weather over here

Had one of those days where everything clicked. I've been sleeping better, eating better, running better. Today was a real highlight, representing a decent hike in weekly mileage without injury and without running like a wobbly zombie.

I never run with music, especially outside where I like to be alert to what is going on around me. I like being able to tune into my body rather then the music during my runs. Looks like you had a good run with a great pace Simon, well done!
