Mid 70's, sunny with 15mph wind. My whole body felt a bit tight and sore today, 2 days after the century ride. Not surprising since that always seems to be the worst of it. However I loosened up immediately and felt good on the bike. Today was another "comfy" day which is to say anytime my legs felt the effort, I would downshift until they felt good. That worked really well today except for a few of the larger hills and the last 2 mile stretch into the wind. I would have bet money that the wind speed had picked up to at least 25mph, but I guess I was just getting tired. :-)
This was an absolutely beautiful day for a ride. There were several points where I was tempted to open it up a little bit. I resisted the urge, but it was difficult in a few places. One of the "tricks" that helped me as staying on the small ring for the entire ride. This slowed me down hurting my overall pace for sure, but a quick pace wasn't what this ride was all about. Easy miles, that's it! Check!

A good recovery ride ridden well and enjoyed by the sounds -)

Nice ride Scott! Glad you took it easy and stuck to your goal of the ride. Keep it up!

Sensible recovery but I do think with the miles you are posting a century isn't going to take that much out of you!

Good ride today Scott and good planning. It won't be long before you are planning centuries every weekend.

Thanks everyone! Much appreciated. @Joe, I can definitely feel the effort of Saturday's Century ride. Not just the miles, but the relative pace for those miles is certainly more than I'm used to. But I feel much better 2 days after than I felt after my first 2 centuries! @Pedro, sometimes I win, sometimes I lose. :-) @Chris, it seems like it could get to that, doesn't it. I'm kind of eyeing brevits for next year. I'm not sure my schedule or training will allow, but they intrique me. :-)

Have you ever tried using a foam roller?

@Michael, no. I'm not sure I would bother. Within a mile I felt loosened up already. I'm not sure what a foam roller would do for me. Can you enlighten me?

Scott; I cannot imagine why we both feel a little tight these days.
:-)). Your staying in the small chain ring shows a maturation in cycling and understanding proper recovery from long hard rides. I hope others are hearing what you are saying about taking care of the body, especially after very hard efforts.

Resisting the urge to hammer it is so hard sometimes, but I am happy you were able to. Those comfortable miles/paces are just good good good for the mind and body. Keep up the good work. Seems like you have everything planned out nicely.

Thanks Sara. Yes, I have a plan. We'll see if I can stick to the plan. :-) Seriously, it is very hard to stick to the recovery plan. Especially with spectacular weather and feeling good. But I know my body (not just my legs) still needs more recovery. I want to make sure I give myself a good recovery. Overly tired is one fast track to injury. I'm also a little concerned about mental burn out. A rest week like this is good for the mind too. :-)

I commend you for your strategy and will try to follow after my ride from Wrigley Field to Miller Park (100 miles) this Saturday.
