I had cancelled this run 3 weeks back and reduced my mileage considerably as I had to be eleswhere during the same time. My friend Paul calls me on Thursday and tells me that I have to come to Scotland as I needed a break p. he told it is okay if I do only half the run. I am not sure what why I did it and decided to cancel my Sing trip on Friday and booked a flight to Scotland. The run is 53 miles trail marathon. Was I ready for it? No way. The run started at 7 am cold Saturday morning. Start temp was 2 deg going to up 10. Run was beautiful. Enjoying nature at its best. My plan was to walk up all the hills. It worked for sometime, but after 15 miles came up with a hill which went on for eternity. And, then when I reached the top, there was a steep drop for one mile. I was a goner. I was already exhausted climbing it. Took this very lightly, as my legs were feeling like jelly coming down. The scenery in the part was outstanding. Had to just stop and admire. This run made me give added respect to what Naresh and Paul do. It is totally different to street marathons and it is not easy. I loved doing it, but unfortunately living in Chennai it is going to be difficult training for it. This was kind of self supported run when you had to give drop bags and specific checkpoint. When I reached the base, it was 20 miles. Refueled it, ate and continued my run. The next 7 miles was hilly as well, and when I reached the next checkpoint which was the half way point decided to call it quits as my original plan. They give you 14 hours to finish the race which I could have finished if I had walked it. this has to wait for some other time when I am ready.
