That giant goose egg that appears on my training log every Monday at 12:01 can be daunting, sometimes.

Scott rode 33.7 miles Church route. – 33.7 mi
If previous rides were a "fist-fight", this one was a bloody cage match, with me being bludgeoned with a metal folding chair. I rode to church - 23 miles from my home, nearly half of which is eastbound(the direction from which the 12-15 mph w... read more

This is the first ever "church commute" story I have heard. Thanks for sharing! I commuted as well, but it was a short 2 minute walk with the kids.

Scott rode 23.25 miles good16 mile commute(600) – 23.25 mi
Very nice early morning ride (16 mile commute with a few extras thown in). Up well before the sun in order to get some extra miles in before work. Left at 6am in order to compensate for the slower pace of the base mile challenge.

Thanks to daylight savings time, I am back to riding in the dark. I really don't mind, though. I have the equipement to do it safely and, one of my favorite parts of riding - or running, for that matter - is to be up and moving when ... read more

I'll swap you Scott! Clocks go forward next week in the UK so I will be back riding in the dark when I commute to work. Not as peaceful as "The early morning fog; the first rays of sun light silhouetting a windmill or grain silo ", It will be the, traffic lights that are always on red or the white van driver cutting me up and giving me abuse, but hey I'll imagine I am in Indiana and they are nothing but Windmills and Grain Silos and think of you.

If you want to be certain that you will encounter hot female cyclists, just blow some snot rockets, and they'll roll up out of nowhere to catch you in the act.

I accepted the Base Miles Challenge ( http://www.dailymile.com/challenges/657-base-miles ) - knowing that it was a little late to be starting it, but also knowing that I really had nothing better to do for the next 500 miles. M... read more

Scott not familiar with the Base Miles term Can you clarify for me?
It is under "challenges"( http://www.dailymile.com/challenges/657-base-miles ). The idea being to build a good base of high RPM, low heart rate miles early in the season before pushing hard in the spring. The challenge suggests that you ride 800kn(500 miles) at 100 rpm and keep your heart rate low. To do so, they suggest that you limit yourself to 39x19/21 gearing, and to do that strictly, until you've completed the 500 miles. I am doing most of it on my MTB so I am using a 42x21/23(roughly stated: 2:1)

Interesting. I could not do that and hope to complete the March Millenium. Not enough time to ride. Arent you already beyond 500 miles?
not for that challenge. I just started it a week or so ago. I really have been doing that type of riding most of the winter, so if I just bailed on it now, I'm probably in pretty good shape. But, again, I've got nothing better to do. I can finish it before April. If nothing else, I will finish it up while in Florida the first week of April.

Today is delivery day - that is I deliver cheesecake to a local fine dining establishment - so, yesterday, I could not too far or too long. I had only 30 or 40 minutes at a time so I did multiple short O/Bs. Taking the day off - except for a short, eas... read more

Yeah but, between you and me, Kevin, I will be glad when they are over. About 350 to go. BTW, I saw that Sealskinz has a full finger cycling glove for warmer weather. Any idea how much those are at the warehouse?
