  1. RUN
    alright Treadmill Week2Day3 1.6 mi 00:29 18:07 pace

I may do week 2 again next week. Adding in the weights made this a really hard week.

  2. Woke up today feeling like someone stuffed me in a pillowcase and beat me with bars of soap in tube socks. Decided I needed a rest day. I'll do day 3 of my week tomorrow.

That's a rough feeling! Probably a good idea to delay day 3! Feel better soon!

Hmmm legs are majorly strong - arms are wimps. No upper body strength FTL!

  5. Talked to the trainer at the gym about my frustration and disappointments. He suggested some goal setting and planning and my first goal is to run an actual 5K. Tomorrow (payday) I will be signing ... read more

Sounds like a solid plan. I've heard the Komen runs are well organized and great for "firsts."

We start with goals. They have to be measurable, realistic and attainable. For instance, near the end of 2009 I wanted to be benchpressing 100#, and on Dec 31 I was at 105#. When I did my last Air Force fit test I wanted to run in 11:40 because that was the max time allowable for me when I came in at 19. I did 12:40, which considering 20 years is not too far from the goal.

Start off with what you're doing now and add 5% every week. Consistency is the key to advancement.

It's early days yet. You're getting further than me - I'm doing the C25K walk/run timings but I can't seem top get beyond 2km without feeling faint and having to sit down

Things do change. A lot. It's just a bit gradual. I ran my first whole mile just on 2.5 to 3 years ago. Since then, I've lost 70 pounds, and, well, I've run a marathon. The trick is to just run through these sorts of days, and get them behind you so you can enjoy more of the good sorts of days.

I just re-read that, and I hope it doesn't come across as "preachy." I just wanted to say that I've been there. I had those days when I felt like I was running and running and running, but never getting any faster, stronger, or fitter. But in the long run, I was. It just didn't always feel that day. I hope you push through it. There's certainly a group of people online here who'll cheer you on the whole way!

I have signed up for my first 5K - Its a Komen race in May. :)

I know! It seemed much harder without my tunes. Also I use the C25K app on my iphone and I just felt like everyone around me could hear it. :-/

I hate when I do that. I am totally on the side of "running with headphones." My brain needs something to distract it from the whining my body is doing!

  9. Contemplating an outside run/walk today, but it's 40 and I'm a wimp.

Yeah I know. I'm being whiny. Suck it up buttercup.

I say that all the time! But keep running enjoyable for yourself. Don't let it slide tomorrow, but if running starts to feel too much like a chore, you're almost gauranteed to stop doing it. When it's fun, you keep at it!

It can get there. 2 Years ago, I couldn't run a mile, and dreaded every time I went out. But, here I am now, looking for excuses to go for a run, and hating when I miss it!

It definitely would help. Can you try to do some basic sun salutations on your own. I know that I feel better after a couple. Also pay attention to how you run. Any sort of twisting in the torso can cause pain in your core.
