Sarah, it's lovely to have you back, but take your time! You've said you have a lot on. I like the idea that running is a stress, albeit a beneficial one, and when we have lots of other stresses in our lives already we need to ease up on the running, above all not let it become yet another "must do" or "didn't do". I suggest turning off the internal critic and just running for relaxation and enjoyment. You will be building a sound base for later harder training.
Yes, my approach for now is just to try and get out there for easy miles...not worrying about speed or distance. I've got one more 10k scheduled for this weekend and then no more racing for me until the fall... :) If I can maintain a base through the summer and then start thinking about training for something like a trail race late late fall or even spring 2013.

I'm not surprised you are finding it hard to run at present. Enough is enough - and it sounds as if you have altogether too much on. Obviously being able to drive when you move to the country has to be a top priority. I agree with the idea that running is a stress, albeit a benign one, and if one already has too many stresses in one's life, exercise can be one stress too many. Your 20k sounds ideal since you can walk as much of it as you like, in soothing surroundings.

When I get into a slump it means that my training is getting too routine... same old routes, same old workouts, nothing fun... I just went to a new location about 20min from me and realized that I was excited to make each turn because, 1. I wasn't sure it was the right turn, and 2. I didn't know what was around the corner. I hope you get back into it.

Nice run! You'll get used to running in heat. It's tougher because you sweat more and the heart rate is higher but you'll adapt over time. Don;t be impatient, keep up small runs like these and make them regular and it'll get better. When it gets really hot you just slow down and try to run when it's cooler :)
Hmmm, handy tips. Looks like Tel Aviv won't be too hot after all, but I'm close enough to the start that the cold shower option is useful to know. Sounds like its a useful book... you'd recommend it?

Everybody has already given you tons of tips but I would say just do your best to avoid the "heat" of the day but also that your body will relativise all of this and you'll be fine. It'll be funny because these temps will feel like relief after the summer months. Good job with your run!

Quick response between run & shower - sympathise about the sore toe. I wear a small hollowed out foam blob on my little toe. First discovered them in France, where the chemist told me that, unbelievably, they are called "coiffeuses d'orteil". Maybe he was sending me up, or maybe I misheard, but it's worth a try.

What a scary accident! Glad no real harm was done. I listen to speech podcasts on my long walks, because I can be out for 8+ hours. Can't imagine concentrating on speech when running, but I would like to try some music on long runs. One more technical thing to go wrong, though. Hope you won't get too restive tapering - you could always go for a little walk.

Nice run sarah, i really enjoy it when i go out and run willy nilly where ever the whim takes me. As for slowing down, deffinately look into running with some slower people. I also hav at least some limited success by forcing myself to only breath through my nose when i want to run slow.

No, and it's really a bad game to play because you can get injured doing it in the long term. Just shrug it off and get back at it, 7 km is already great!

What Tim said. Think always of the big picture. In the grand scheme of things it doesn't matter if you did 7km instead of 8km on March 14th, 2012. What matters is getting out and running consistently, staying happy and staying healthy. Secondly, if one day you're feeling crap and want to cut a run short then do so. If another day you're feeling great and want to add a mile or so then why not? Don't be a slave to the schedule!

On the other hand this might be the fuel you may want to use on some of the longer runs...I know for me it would be much better to loose not just some but a whole bunch of kg's and it feels hard to lose some...might have to lengthen my runs and lower the intake..but then looking at you run and pace I would sign for that...Have a Happy Tuesday..
3. Timing: I'd like to pick up the book that @Emily recommended because I read some extracts and it seems to address what you should eat and WHEN you should eat it. I think @Alexandra has good points about the psychology behind WHY we eat and that definitely deserves exploration too. My parents have always struggled with their weight too.

Bad luck about having a husband like that! I think you are right, cookies are the culprit. They are SO full of calories and range from unhealthy to deadly! IMO the trick is not so much to avoid eating after dinner as to avoid eating junk at any time - but having said that, our control is weakest when we are tired, so after dinner is a dangerous time.
