Not sure if it was because I took the pressure off myself to run fast, the magically sugary homemade brownies I ate for breakfast or if it was the interesting things I saw, but today was a pretty g... read more

tired Mixed Bag Run 4.37 mi 00:44 10:10 pace
Not sure what's up lately. Set out for an 8 mile run, couldn't manage even 2.5 miles without walking. Then I did 3 hill sprints up the Omand's Creek rail bridge, and another up Porta... read more

great (5) x 1/2 Mile Repeats 5 mi 00:49 09:47 pace

And it would probably keep things more fun maybe. I know in a few weeks into HH's program I'll be missing speedwork. I have to settle for pace runs (which I guess are more or less long, slow tempo runs)

Yeah, I get really bored not doing speedwork for a few weeks. And tempo runs are my least favourite of all speedwork, so definitely wouldn't be my choice if I was only doing one thing (although I do think they are very effective).

good Easy Run 3.1 mi 00:30 09:39 pace
Not that easy in the rain and wind, kept this one short in Wolseley as a result. Pace felt fine, not sure on the accuracy, since the Garmin couldn't find a satellite today (understandably).

great Steady State Run + RT 6.65 mi 01:03 09:26 pace
Was slated for a hard tempo run today, but my legs have been so sore this week, I didn't want to push it really hard. Opted instead for a longer, steady state run at whatever pace felt hard-go... read more

Awesome work, Sam! And if you weren't suffering too too badly at the end this bodes really well for the RCAF.

You are usually good at reading me as to how tired I actually am, so feel free to comment that I'm not really breathing hard (if I'm complaining about the pace).

good Easy Run 4.2 mi 00:43 10:13 pace
Woof, I'm so sore today. Not sure if it's leftovers from the race on Sunday or yard work the past few days or some combination of the two. Hopefully it's just the yard work, it would... read more

I trying to force myself for times like that for when the full marathon hits in June. Just can't get past the 9:30/mile. Feels like I'm walking, even at that speed.

Normally I'd feel the same way about the pace, but the heat and soreness combined with just overall exhaustion and a high heart rate helped me keep it down. I think my body forgot how hard yard work is...

Although, yeah, I would compare how I felt today to the last 6 miles of my marathon last year. Heavy legs.

Thanks! I feel pretty sure I would've met my goal if my legs and body weren't so trashed. Hopefully for my next half, I'll be more rested and my legs will be more springy!

Thanks! I find when I focus on my stride instead of my breathing, I run a lot faster and more comfortably. Gotta remember that for my halfs. Which I guess I should register for.

I don't know. I have a few suspicions, but it might be something as simple as not having a rest day before I attempted these long runs, as I usually do. I'll try again on Wednesday after speed work tomorrow and a rest again on Tuesday...

I think I could do one more if I was in a race, but it would be pushing it. I really feel like I maxed out the pace today. The only thing that puts it up in the air is that fast middle mile. It's possible that if I stayed at a consistent 8:50, I might have been less tired, but I can't be sure. That was pretty close to full tilt for me.

Agreed. I think I should freeze some now, before I eat them all. You should save yours for after the race though because it seemed to have a laxative effect this morning (which for me, is a good thing). First time I haven't had stomach weirdness on a long run in a while.
