Enjoy the last hours of 2011, and then go and just run tomorrow. It is just a little 10K race, one of many you will run. It will hurt during the second half, but that's OK bc you are tough and you can take it and it will be over soon. No pressure. The butt will be fine. Oh, I hope you don't get VM because I'd love to hear from you. It's been quiet on DM without you. Thanks Katie. So far my body is responding really well to the miles. But I'm also very cautious. Injury sucks and I don't want it around! ;) AM, how old are you? Not that much older! :) Yeah, a lot can happen with 50-60 miles a week...that's a great mileage. I'll be interested to see if this mileage increase will do anything for me. I already feel stronger but I hope it translates.

I am 38, the oldest around here. Old and wise, he, he! My understanding is that lower mileage+a lot of speed = higher mileage + less speed. Of course, higher mileage + high speed is the best, but also the toughest on the body. I do think that the more experience as a runner one has, the lower the injury risk (particularly to the bones). Experienced runners tend to get more muscle tears - Tera Moody is down now with one, and a few other olympic wanna bees are

    • Ana-Maria

Yes, running slower than you are used to makes for a different stride. I do think it is helpful though bc you recruit muscle fibers that you normally do not use:) Nice job getting out there at the wee hours:)
