This was a hilly course loop at the soccer complex, essentially half up hill with a large incline at the end, and then back down to do it over again. I had the intentions of going for 2 hours today because I really wanted to get a longer run in, but everytime I try to I end up ending early. I really thought this was going to be one of those days.

The run started off really well, even though my legs were already getting tired. I did 3 loops counterclockwise, going up the steepest incline, then I did four loops the other way. The clockwise direction has two good inclines instead of one steep one. So at 7 I was perfectly at one hour and stopped for 25 seconds or so to drink some water, then back at it.

The second half I did one steep, four clockwise, then I wanted to finish strong with two steep hill sprints. And that's exactly how that business went down. I was feeling really good throughout the entire second half, the sun went down and I got a second wind and the hillsprints flew by.

In my head I've been wanting to hit the 18 mark on a "normal" day. I figure if I can run that for an average run, that I can finish the marathon within my goal time. Today was a huge confidence boost because I ran it on THAT hilly course and still had something in the tank. Best run since I started back again this year. I'm actually looking forward to my last few long runs now.

So what's your training sked from here on out? You mention getting in a couple more long runs, but you're getting close to taper time... Just curious what the plan was...

Chaz, The training group does 2 more "long" runs which are actually shorter than this one, a 15 and a 13. They cover the first and second half of the course, so it's nice to run those.

I'll do another 18 next Tues or Wed. I'll also try to not to go far beyond 10 up to the final "long" run on the 20th. After that I will taper 8-4-6-4-2-3-2 with striders.
