Elizabeth R. hi everyone. just fig...

Hi everyone. Just figured I would post an update.
Next week will be 5 months since my knee freaked out. It's been a good time of simplifying, slowing down and listening. That's not to say it hasn't been nerve-wracking at times. I am an active person to my very core, so this has gone against all my regular habits.
I've managed to stay healthy & not regain any of my grad-school weight, even though walking has been the extent of my "exercise." that's a relief. I think my eating habits are actually healthier now. Aside from the fact that i can't be active, I feel good.
Bad news is that my knee has not improved at all. Things have actually gotten worse. For whatever reason, my left knee freaked out on Saturday in the same way that my right one had. No precipitating trauma, no "overdoing it" - nothing. It just freaked out. Enough was enough. I finally spent 2 HOURS on the phone this morning straightening things out with my insurance company who has denied any claims related to my knee even though i shouldn't have any pre-existing condition exclusions.
Since we are but poor lost circus performers... oops, i mean incredibly low-income grad students/recent graduates in this house, we couldn't afford to do anything else until we got something sorted out and could know that our payments would at least be applied to our deductible. (Hello rock, meet hard place. Hard place, meet rock. Please don't squish me.)
Turns out my previous insurance company didn't send a certificate of creditable coverage for *all* my insurance - just the most recent year. Good grief.
So. Now I have to find a good orthopedist.
Le sigh.
I would really settle for just being able to walk around my neighborhood without pain at this point.

I'm so sorry, that sounds really awful. I hope things are sorted out with insurance and you can get some treatment.

I'm so sorry you have to go through all that - as if the pain and not being able to run isn't enough of a heartache. I hope things improve for you greatly in the very, very near future. Sending positive thoughts your way.

Been there, my insurance did the same thing as well. I noticed when I received a 2k lab fee that was past due, and all I could think was WTF!!!! Things will get better, we are all rooting for you :D

ok, so since you're looking for a good orthopedist, does that mean that everything got squared away and you won't get squished? praying for you. let us know when you make it down our way!

heh. Jenny, it at least means that what we pay in bills gets applied to our deductible. :-) since i'm finding this out in the last half of the year, it's unlikely that we'll meet the deductible though. stupid insurance.
