good Twisted Ankle Marathon 26.2 mi 05:43 13:05 pace

Ran the Twisted Ankle Marathon today! And no, my ankle did NOT get twisted - YAY. I finished in a whopping 5:43 (5th in AG though). My speed was inversely proportional to the elevation. Even the "flat" parts had rocks and roots. Jumped over a 3-foot rattle snake. Ate a whole carton of Haagen-Dazs ice cream afterward without the faintest twinge of guilt. Tough doesn't even begin to describe the infamous Becky's Bluff that we got to run TWICE! I promise more details will forthcoming soon on my blog. :-)

Thanks guys! Sang, I kind of wince when I see that 13:05 pace, but I'm much less tired than I was at Albany and I'll recover more quickly. I was able to sprint the whole last mile. It just wasn't worth trying to push pace when I risked busting my you-know-what! I had a lot of fun (other than the two mini pity-parties I had for myself on the worst of the hills). :-)

@Jeremy: The feeling was mutual! You helped me too! I remember you and Tom and I would take about 5 steps, and then we would cling for dear life to the nearest tree. I swear we went so slow that I could see every beetle on the ground. It was like being a zombie. But, WE DID IT!!

Great job Gail. That sounds super tough. I would have turned around if I saw a rattlesnake.

Thanks all! Tad, in my delirium at mile 24, I somehow thought it was a root and just sort of kept running. The guy beside me skidded to a stop while I was in mid-air and yelled, "SNAKE!" By that time, I could do nothing but land, stop, and look back. Sure enough, a nice 3-foot rattle snake was starting to get angry. Snakes, why did it have to be snakes?!

Gail, marathons are about having fun, enjoying yourself, and completing the marathon without injuries. You achieved all three and that is a blessing!! Great job to all of you daily milers for representing us well.
