Parts of the Silver Comet Trail are especially susceptible to this. Friends and I will set out at a steady 8:00 pace (confirmed by our mile splits)m, but for the first few miles from Nickajack we'll see current pace vary wildly between 4:00 pace and 12:00 pace. Keep the shortcomings of the technology in mind and teach your body what a certain pace feels like.

Good points, Marius, but I keep my watch set to lap pace for that reason, so it will sort of smooth those rough edges. Garmin pace on Connect will often show differently than SportTracks because Connect shows that Garmin sometimes loses me altogether for a moment or two, while ST corrects these blips.
