Nikita - hope you're ok!!!! If I were to train for a marathon again I would do it with people. :) I used a program from RunnersWorld.com and it worked very well, but I ran almost exclusively alone. Some of those long runs were very difficult and only now with hindsight can I imagine a running partner or two would have made all the difference!

Very sorry to hear about the unexpected car expenses. I hope your insurance covers a lot of the damage.

Damn, sucks about your car! :( Remember, everything always works out in the end...that's how the universe likes it.

As for training, I'll second the Runner's World program. I just started on it myself and so far so good. The current issue has all the info.

I followed Hal Higdon's training plan for my first marathon. He has an excellent book that accompanies the plan with a chapter for each week. Visit http://halhigdon.com/ and check out Marathon: The Ultimate Training Guide by Hal Higdon. Hal's kind experience has helped me with hundreds of miles of running.

Jeff Galloway takes a different approach and is also very popular. http://www.jeffgalloway.com He alternates running and walking and seeks to finish while avoiding injury. His plans seem less time-con
