Holy humidity Batman. So I love running this race because the weather in Quincy in mid-May is usually 55-65 degrees, sunny, breezy and zero humidity. Not so much this year. It was pushing 70 at ... read more

A little slower today at the Arch, but that was on account of the 80 degree sunshine today. Good times.

For Science! 6.3 mi 01:00 09:31 pace
So I decided to run a little experiment tonight. I put my cruddy, hand-me-down, Craigslist treadmill up against the Nike+ Running app for Android (on my Samsung Galaxy SII using the accelerometer ... read more

Hah, interesting. I use the Nike+ App (iPhone 4) at the gym whenever I'm forced to use the treadmill. For me the app is always about .05-.08 miles behind on each mile compared what the treadmill says. I just correct it once I'm done. I feel like I'll eventually get a garmin but for now you can't beat this for a free app.

I've found the sensor or accelerometer based Nike+ measurements to be a bit "fuzzy" on the distance. Same route run three times in a row and you'll get three different answers with a +/- 5% variance. However, the Nike+ GPS app is solid... but an outdoors only kind of thing.

Thanks, guys. That's good to know. I'm think the treadmills at the office are a bit more reliable, so I may try the same experiment on those next week. Darren - I've had a Forerunner 305 for two years and I love it. Solid piece of hardware that works 100% as advertised. Bo - Glad to know the GPS function works well in Nike+. Overall, it seems like a solid app give the fact that it's free.

I was the same way, now I love getting over there when I can. The middle of the park of gravel/bike trails are pretty cool around the art hill area. Turning off Skinker onto Wydown is a nice 4-5 miles too, some nice mansions if you stray off onto the some of the side streets there.

I didn't end up running due to knee issues that morning. I joined the support team while the others ran and it was...interesting. People really went all out on costumes (for better or for worse) and there was copious amounts of alcohol. So, you know. A good time to be a spectator :)
