Was dreading running in this heat, but I actually felt good. I forget that humidity is my achilles heel, not the heat.
1M warmup (7:34) -- saw the Al Goldstein folks lining up for their 5K, and half thought about crashing the party. Actually, had I seen anyone I could have paced with (Matt S., J Geoffrey B., Mike G., Mark C., Keith W.), then I probably would have. Decided to start my tempo interval, then stop if I saw anyone I could race with.
2K tempo in 8:06 (6:31) -- didn't see anyone, so kept going up North Hill
1M @ 10K TPL in 6:09 -- took a break after this one to watch the racers going by
1K @ 5K TPL in 3:35 (5:46) -- felt strange doing this alongside the 5K folks, so I ran down Center Drive, where I ran by J Geoffrey B. (for the 2nd time in two days)
800m in 2:44 (5:28) -- ran past the race finish; in the opposite direction
0.86M cooldown (6:57) -- ran home, where I quickly turned into a puddle of water
Took longer breaks between intervals today to catch my breath, and not overheat. I understand the aerobic benefits in keeping your recovery times short, but this workout's more about speed than aerobic capacity, plus it is freaking hot out.
