Wow, I'm starting to really like this route. Since the hills are more gradual than my normal run, I can start experimenting more with upping my pace and not have to worry about getting my ass kicked by a punishing hill. Sweet!

Quentin ran 5.24 kilometers in 29 hours goodTo Granville and Back – 5.24 km / 29:00
First day with the new Olympics-detoured route. It's actually not a bad route, just a little more boring. Mostly through residential areas with preposterous numbers of BMWs and Audis parked out front. Went well though, all in all. I might keep this... read more

Well the regular biking route home is now Closed with a capital C. Nice tall fences everywhere -- sort of jail-esque (not that I've ever been, y'understand). Good short blast up the hills for my quads thanks to SeƱor Fixie.

yeah, i've seen those fences everywhere . . . totally makes the city feel like an outdoor prison.

Quentin ran 3.46 kilometers goodRiding to Work – 3.46 km
Very light traffic for the most part. It's been a few days since I last rode to work, but everything was peachy. Oh except for the one cock in an Audi who tried to run a stop sign (and run me over) -- right outside the police station. Clever. Audis... read more

ha! i was at starbucks this morning and some dude in an audi pulls up and parks directly in front of a "no stopping at anytime" sign, then goes in to get his coffee. i was biting my tongue, trying not to shout "ARE YOU REALLY THAT MUCH OF A RETARD??"

Apparently he is! But yeah, they even mentioned the BMW/Audi/Cock phenomenon on "Top Gear" so it seems to be global in scale! But now we know so we can beware. ;)

Quentin ran 5 kilometers goodEarly Morning Science World Run – 5 km
No complaints with this run. Energy was decent, weather was good, no aches or pains. There were cops and security everywhere but nobody stopped me, surprisingly!
-
i think the key is to just look like you're supposed to be there. then no one questions you.

Yeah and also I'm guessing the cops are probably not too into the idea of having to chase me down. Too much effort!

Quentin ran 5 kilometers goodEarly Morning Science World Run – 5 km
It went really well today! No complaints. My running route is still doable (so far) even with all the road closures. When I run by sign-people blocking roads I don't think they know what to do with me, so they do nothing. There are cops and CCTV ca... read more

and so the craziness begins. hopefully you can still do your route for a little while before it gets too insane!

Yeah, I know that one morning the security people will decide to be jackasses and send me back the way I came... The question is just when. Either that or they'll rough me up and toss me in a cell -- that's possible too!
ha, the possibility of being seen as an instigator and getting tossed in a cell just for running doesn't actually seem that outlandish during the olympics.

I know, it kinda makes me nervous. I'm gonna have to start running with some ID on me for the next couple weeks methinks. :/

Good run this morning. Good energy level, no knee or back pain. All that I needed for it to be a "great" run would be the sun coming up before 9am! Ha!

Went pretty well this morning! No stitches or anything like that, which is always nice. The generators running 24/7 belching diesel exhaust around the olympic areas aren't so great though...
-
ugh, i don't envy you having to breathe that in while running!

No, it's pretty gross alright. I wish there was some kinda filter that you could wear for in-city exercise that didn't actually restrict your breathing. Wishful thinking!

Made it all the way up the hill fixie-stylies tonight. Apparently the trick is not to race up the hill the entire way. Who knew?
-
haha. i feel the same way about running hills- awhile ago i had a revelation where i was like "wow, it's a lot easier to make it to the top if i don't go balls to the wall the whole way up!"

It's true! I remember that pin dropping for me about running too, but I didn't make the correlation to cycling too. Duhr. :) As long as I get there in the end I guess!

Getting better with each ride. My ass is toughening up to the seat and my legs are getting used to the new movement. AND no rain today. Hurrah!

screw those audis. you should totally snot rocket on their windows.
4 days agoI've never mastered the runner's nose blow -- when I try that it just splatters all over myself and I end up looking very properly stupid. Probably for the best, really!

4 days agoI recently got some gloves from Sugoi that have built-in nose-wipe fabric on the index finger and thumb -- I find it pretty useful... But I definitely steer clear from the snot-rockets. You guys are gross. ;) j/k
