Running is hard. You can make it as hard as you want it to be.
Can I run 4mi? Definitely. Can I run 4mi in 36 mins? Hell yeah. Is it painful? No. Can I run 4mi in 32 mins? Yes. Is it painful? Little bit. Can I run 4mi in under 30 mins? Possibly. Is it painful? Yes.
I'm stating the obvious, but you really are always competing with yourself. The other night I saw a documentary about three guys who ran across the Sahara (4300 miles in 111 days). In comparison, I was just running 4mi this morning, but running those four miles has its own challenges for me. That documentary definitely inspired me (you should watch it!), but I'm not about to start training to run the Sahara anytime soon.
Today's run is the last of the month. 158 miles.

Proud of you... but also confused. All the advice we read said that you should do distance training independently from speed training, that you should wait for a time when you aren't prepping for a marathon to build up speed. I'm a little worried that you will hurt yourself! Only a few weeks left before your marathon.
